Welcome to St Stephen’s Maintained Nursery

We have three classes with 30 children in each class in the morning and 30 in the afternoon. Each class has a teacher and two nursery officers. Children may start nursery when there is a space after their third birthday. Parents may register their child for a place after their second birthday. We are an inclusive nursery with a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator who ensures that all children have access to provision and support to meet their individual needs.

Times of sessions: 9am-12 and 12.30-3.30pm

Each child will be allocated a ‘key-person’. Families will be offered a home visit by their key person to support the settling in process. The ‘key person’ will keep a Special Book on each child and share their progress and development with parents on a regular basis. Staff speak a range of community languages.

Learning & Development

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance - www.education.gov.uk

Each class has a book area, areas for exploration and investigation, a creative area, area for construction, role-play area, mark-making area, sand and water, messy play area, musical instruments and resources to support mathematical development. We place strong emphasis on outdoor play and physical development and children can access our large and exciting garden area for much of the day.

We are proud to be a ‘Healthy School’. We encourage children to ‘Walk on Wednesdays’ and we share fruit and healthy snacks every session. We grow our own fruit and vegetables in our allotment and use these for cooking activities with the children.
