Core Book Videos

At St Stephen’s Nursery we use ‘core books’ to support children’s learning in all areas. These are high quality picture books which have been carefully chosen to engage and interest our children. Many of them have repetitive language and include short rhymes and songs to stimulate children’s memory and understanding of vocabulary as well as a love of reading.

Staff in the nursery are trained to read stories with children in a natural and interactive way as we know this is the best method to support the development of rich and complex language skills. All of the core books have beautiful illustrations which are linked to the text and this helps children to understand the meaning within the story.  Many of our children learn the books word for word which gives them great confidence and fluency as early readers.
