Diwali Celebrations 2025
Every autumn Hindus and Sikhs celebrate Diwali which is a five day long festival of lights. The story of Diwali is about Rama, a Prince and Sita who was a Princess, a story of good versus evil. This October the children engaged in a topic week of learning about Diwali celebrations, developing a greater understanding of different cultural and religious beliefs.
The children were very busy making Diwali lamps ‘divas’ out of salt dough and painting them in bright colours, looking at traditional rangoli patterns which are drawn on the doorsteps to welcome guests into the home. Coloured rice was used inside and larger patterns were created outside on the floor using chalk.
The children danced with colourful scarves to Indian music and took part in Garba dancing dressed in their celebration outfits.
