  • Wednesday 22 June 2022 Dad's Morning/Afternoon On Friday last week, in celebration of Father’s Day, we opened our doors to the men in our community who are important in our children’s lives.
  • Monday 13 June 2022 EYFS Sports Day On Thursday 9th June, our Reception and Nursery children took part in the EYFS Sports Day. We were so excited to try lots of new sports activities as well as the favourites we know and love. We have been practising our sports with Coach Ray in preparation for the day and we were ready to show our parents what we had learned. There were 8 sports activities including track racing, javelin, shot put and vertical jumping. We also took part in an egg and spoon race which we were very excited about. In between the sports, we had a chance to rest and enjoy some delicious oranges and drink some water, which we know is healthy for us. Best of all, our parents were there to watch us compete and they cheered us on as we went along. At the end, the parents and carers got the chance to compete in their own track race. Our parents can run extremely fast! The sun was shining and it was a wonderful day.
  • Friday 10 June 2022 Nursery and Daycare Jubilee Celebrations Nursery and Daycare Jubilee Celebrations Our children had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Over the course of the week before half term, they took part in a variety of activities focussed on our country’s longest serving monarch. They learned about her role, where she lives and the members of her family. They drew beautiful pictures of her and looked at books and photographs exploring how the country has changed since she was a girl. They also took part in some lovely conversations about her hobbies and interests, such as her dogs and horses.
  • Friday 27 May 2022 Jubilee Fayre What a wonderful time we all had at the Jubilee Fayre! We certainly celebrated the Queen's impressive 70 year reign in style. The whole community came together for a memorable event. Children and parents enjoyed a range of cakes and savoury items; traditional fish and chips and delicious sweets. They also had fun on the bouncy castle; sponging a variety of school staff and demonstrating their football skills at the penalty shoot out! Many enjoyed more creative activities such as pace painint; crown and mask making and mehndi. There certainly was something for everyone!We'd like to thank all those that supported the event through volunteering, donating items and running stalls. It was a great way to end a half term at school.
  • Friday 27 May 2022 Jubilee Curriculum Week With an amazing event taking place taking place between 2nd - 5th June across the country, St .Stephen's decided to celebrate the momentous occasion with a PlatinumJubilee themed week. The children can now confidently tell us about the Queen and how she is the first British monarch to reign for 70 years.
  • Thursday 26 May 2022 Dot Dot Dance Speech and Language Parent Workshop This term we have been fortunate enough to collaborate with Dot Dot Dance, an organisation that specialises in dance and movement in early years. Dot Dot Dance have worked together with our school to devise an amazing five week programme for our children in Nursery and Reception.
  • Thursday 31 March 2022 Mums Morning In celebration of Mother’s Day, we held a special Mother’s Morning (and afternoon) at nursery on Friday.
  • Thursday 31 March 2022 Health Event St Stephen’s Children’s Centre held their annual Health Event on the afternoon of Thursday 24th March.There was a range of stalls and activities on offer to support the physical and mental health of our community. This included exercise classes, healthy cooking, mindfulness activities and lots of ideas to ensure our children have healthy teeth and good oral hygiene.There was lots of information available to support family members with diabetes and heart disease.The Health Event was a good reminder that there is always something we can do to improve the health of our children and our families. Please ask a member of Children’s Centre staff if you have any concerns about your child’s physical or mental health.
  • Thursday 31 March 2022 Physical Curriculum Day Thank you to everyone who attended another fantastic Physical Curriculum Day at nursery last week. It was a pleasure to open our doors to you once again and to share some of the things that we do daily to promote good physical development.
  • Saturday 12 March 2022 World Book Day 2022 On the 3rd March Nursery and Daycare children celebrated World Book Day. All the children came in dressed as animals which linked to our core book “What the Ladybird Heard”.We were visited by Francois the Frog at story time which was a special treat, and he taught us lots of rhymes with his very own book “Oi Frog”.Some of the children made their own books to take home, and it was great to see them celebrating being both an author and an illustrator.
  • Monday 7 February 2022 Chinese New Year In the Nursery this week, we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We have taken part in lots of different activities including making lanterns, dragon masks and some delicious noodles. The children learnt that this year is the year of the tiger. Ask your children about Chinese New Year. You will be amazed about the knowledge they have learnt about this festival.
  • Friday 17 December 2021 Snowball Throughout the Autumn term, all the children have been learning dance moves and routines as part of “Physical Friday.” Then, all throughout our Christmas themed week, each year group took to the hall to showcase the routines they’ve learnt, practise their moves and to dance freestyle.

  • Friday 22 October 2021 Logic Week This week has been Logic Week at St Stephen’s and the children in nursery have been taking part in a wide range of activities designedto support their mathematical and computational thinking.
  • Wednesday 20 October 2021 Educational Visit to West Ham Park This week, a few children from Blue Room have been out on educational visits to West Ham Park. We were so impressed with how they walked all the way there from nursery and listened really well to their teachers on the way.
  • Tuesday 28 September 2021 Physical Friday Physical Friday is back in the nursery!
  • Monday 20 September 2021 Settling In Nursery and Day Care Starting Nursery is a big step for children and parents. Here at St Stephen’s we know that time invested in settling children in properly has great benefits in the long run – children feel safe and secure, confident and ready to learn.
  • Saturday 11 September 2021 Olympic Week Nursery had a great time during Olympic Week, trying out different sports such as Karate and Scooting. It was fantastic to have the experts come in to show us their various tricks and moves.
  • Saturday 31 July 2021 Nursery Summer Performances For the past few weeks, the children have been practising their class productions of Dear Zoo and they performed them today for staff from across the school. It was wonderful to see them sing their songs and deliver their lines with such confidence.
  • Monday 29 March 2021 Physical Friday On Friday 19th March, the Nursery launched “Physical Friday.” The children had a great time joining in with boot camp exercises to music and practising physical skills such as throwing, catching, hopping and skipping. The children were able to visit the Primary School where they used lots of energy running around the track and playing in the ball court. The British Heart Foundation recommends that children aged 2 and over have at least 3 hours of vigorous exercise every day. So we are making every Friday “Physical Friday”. Children will be learning how to throw and catch, jump, hop, skip, ride a balance bike and how to make healthy snacks. Please make sure your child is always dressed to be active, with trainers and comfortable clothes.

  • Sunday 7 March 2021 Year 6 World Book Day A big thank you to year 6 for coming to visit Blue Room during World Book Day. In yet another fantastic project the Year 6’s not only read to the Nursery children one on one , but actually presented them with 6 books that they had written and illustrated themselves. The amount of detail in all of the books is amazing and the Nursery children were very excited to add them to their book corner.
  • Tuesday 9 February 2021 Snow The children were very excited to explore the snow in the Nursery garden. For many of our two and three year olds this was the first time they had seen snow. The staff also had a lot of fun throwing snowballs and building snowmen. The children looked closely at the snowflakes to see the wonderful crystal shapes and watched them slowly melt away. The children had some questions about why it snows and we explained that when water gets very cold it changes into ice in the clouds. We left some hot water out in the garden overnight and were fascinated to find it frozen solid the next day!
  • Monday 8 February 2021 Nursery Fire Project This week in the Nursery to warm us up in the cold weather we had a fire.In order to make sure everyone was safe we practised sitting around the fire circle and singing our fire safety song:(Sing to the tune of Frere Jacques)‘”Round the camp fire, round the camp fire”Feel the heat, feel the heat,Don’t go in the middle; don’t go in the middle,Stay in your seat, stay in your seat!The children collected sticks and kindling in the garden and were mesmerised by the sounds and smells of the fire and the flames.
  • Monday 1 February 2021 Pupil Premium Resource Packs To support the pupils who are entitled to Pupil Premium at St Stephen's during this latest lockdown, the school has provided a bag full of resources to over 160 children.
  • Thursday 17 December 2020 Day Care and Nursery Christmas Celebrations On Tuesday 15th December, day care and nursery had their Christmas celebrations. Everyone was dressed in their Christmas jumpers and we raised £230 for the charity ‘Save the Children’.
  • Monday 7 December 2020 Art Week The Nursery children thoroughly enjoyed all of the activities planned for them during ‘Art Week.’  Every day we had a different focus – including working with clay, printing, self-portraits, exploring colour and painting with natural resources. 
  • Thursday 26 November 2020 St. Stephen’s is in the Top 5 again! We are delighted to report that in the National Sunday Times, on Sunday 22nd November 2020, it was announced that St. Stephen’s is Number 5.  This accolade comes for the fourth year in a row being Number 1 in 2017, Number 8 in 2018, Number 4 in 2019 and now Number 5 in 2020. These achievements would not be possible without the hard working and dedicated team within our community including the staff, parents and Governors.
