St Stephen's Nursery

Love of Reading Curriculum Day

Our Curriculum day focus this term was “Love of reading.” The aim was to show the importance of sharing books with young children and how early phonics and small world activities support children’s language skills.

It was lovely to see parents and children joining in with activities such as creating silly soup, making cucumber sandwiches and shopping at the St Stephen’s bakery.

The senior support staff led interactive story telling sessions linked to some of our core books.  The children flew to the moon while reading the book “Whatever Next, made lots of mess like George in the book “Oh No George! and acted out the story “Little Rabbit Foo Foo.”

There were lots of activities that encouraged children’s early mark making including labelling plant pots and posting letters to their friends and family. We hope you are all looking after your beanstalks at home.

Penny, our amazing music teacher, also led some singing sessions.  Singing and rhymes are such an important part of developing children’s language.  If you want to hear some of the rhymes again Penny has filmed some videos which can be found on our website under parent resources.
